A polytechnic college student was allegedly put to physical torture while being ragged by senior students at Kottayam Nattakam Polytechnic college.
Avinash of Iringalakkuda in Thrissur was allegedly asked to strip and perform physical exercises in the nude for about six hours. He was also allegedly forced to drink tainted liquor by his seniors at the boys hostel.
Avinash’s mother Radha told The News Minute that one of his kidneys was damaged as he was forced to drink tainted liquor.
“The incident happened at night on December 2, some of the senior students took him to a room where other junior students were also forced to strip, he was asked to perform some physical exercises. They also made him drink some liquor. Doctor said the liquor was tainted,” Radha alleged.
She adds “They made him to perform some exercises from 9pm to 3am.”
Radha said that Avinash returned home the next day as he felt unwell and was subsequently admitted in hospital. “We admitted him in hospital after he started bleeding while urinating,” she added.
Kottyam Chingavanam police have registered case against eight senior students.
“We have recorded the victim’s statement. The students will be arrested soon. They have been suspended from college. Doctors have said that his internal organs including one kidney have some serious ailments, mostly the result of ragging. Only after investigation we can confirm this,” Chingavanam sub-inspector MS Shibu told TNM.
Meanwhile another student has also given a complaint against the senior students.
Avinash is presently undergoing dialysis.
